TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION LIST OF THE WORLD'S MOST INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES

Die ETH Zürich und die École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne stehen an der Spitze

The data in Times Higher Education’s ranking of The World’s Most International Universities 2017 are drawn largely from the “international outlook” pillar of THE World University Rankings 2016‐17. This takes into account a university’s proportions of international students, international staff and journal publications with at least one international co‐author. Each of these elements is given equal weighting in calculating the score for this pillar.

On 1st February 2017  Times Higher Education published the 2017 list of the 150 most international universities in the world. Swiss institutions take the two top places in the ranking -- which takes into account international reputation for the first time -- with ETH Zurich leading École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

The ranking of international universities is remarkable for the fact that US universities, which dominate the top of most world university rankings, are absent from the top 20 in this list. The list is published against a backdrop of warnings by the Association of American Universities in the US that allowing other nations replace the US as the "prime destination for the most talented students and researchers would cause irreparable damage" and could help competitor nations surpass the US as the global leader in higher education.

The rest of the top 10 in this ranking comprises the University of Hong Kong (third), National University of Singapore (fourth), Imperial College London (fifth), University of Oxford (sixth), Australian National University (seventh), University of Cambridge (eighth) and University College London (ninth) and the London School of Economics and Political Science in tenth place.
