UNIversities for ENLIGHTENMENT

On the initiative of Universities Austria (uniko), ten European rectors' conferences gathered in Vienna in December 2018 to sign the so called "Vienna Statement". 

The university representatives underline their strong belief in the fundamental values of higher education, that reflect the achievements of enlightenment, and warn against any form of undermining of independent research and institutional autonomy. At the same time, they express their concern at movements that threaten the democratic character of their institutions and societies. 

The partners of the Universities for Enlightenment (U4E) initiative have agreed to keep each other updated on current developments and they also plan common activitities aiming at strenthening the public discourse on the matter.
