About MORE
For specific questions about the range of courses offered by the universities, please contact the university of your choice directly
MORE started in the winter semester 2015/16 as a pilot project at some universities to give people with a refugee background access to public universities and thus to a reality away from reception centres. Very quickly, all 22 Austrian universities took part in the initiative, for example by providing a certain number of places in selected courses or offering their own courses for applicants with a refugee background. Over the course of five years, approximately 3,500 MORE students have taken advantage of this broad offer.
Student applicants were and are also supported financially through so-called semester packages.
In the meantime, the demand has decreased - in the best case, the first integration steps of the original target group have already been successfully implemented. In the meantime, the way in which university applicants with a refugee background are dealt with has also become more differentiated, and the universities have each found their own individual way of dealing with them. The current offers of the universities for people with a refugee background, such as courses, scholarships or support through buddy systems, can be found under Offer.
More information on the original objectives and their achievement can be found in the two MORE evaluations of uniko and JKU Linz (German version only) and in the short summary (German version only) of both evaluations, see below.
